It's winter 2021 in the Atacama Desert, Chile. In the backyard of one of the largest lithuim mine in the world, various interlocutors appear before the camera to speak about what the land means to them. Among them are an indigenous woman fighting for water rights, scientists testing rovers in the arid landscapes, business executives hopeful and prospectif - the list goes on. They tell story of the new age of exploration set agains the backdrop of the lingering memory of colonization. The film team takes this epic and puzzling landscape like scientists eager to find life in space. The various voices entangle, their various longings at odds. Through the lens of the camera, the barren landscape of the desert begins to look like the Red Planet itself, the theater of so many of our science-fiction fantasies. It transform Mars into a foggy, red crystsl ball spelling new beginnings and the end of times for humanity.

Hiver 2021. Désert d'Atacama, Chili. Autour d'une des plus grandes mines de lithuim du monde, plusieurs protagonistes racontent leur attachement à ce territoire. S'entrechoquent l'engagement d'une indigène pour les droits de l'eau, les doutes des scientifiques en exploration du désert comme analogue à la planète Mars, la croyance des industriels, les spectres de la colonisation et les récits des nouveaux expolorateurs. La quête des traces de la vie dans l'univers creuse celle de l'équipe du film, vertignieuse et absurde. Les voix s'emmêlent et les discours s'enrayent. Le paysage aride et sec du désert se confond bientôt avec celui de la planète rouge et de ses délires raisonnées. Telle une boule de cristal, Mars apparaît comme le début et la fin du temps.
